With a 33 percent increase in entries and over 150 product entries from 100 companies in this year's Awards program, the 2007 INNOVATION Award judges had their work cut out for them. Entries were judged individually on the following six criteria: innovativeness, cost effectiveness, ease of use, maintainability, productivity and quality contribution.

Due to the large number of entries, two new categories were created to ease the judging process and even out the competition. The Electrical Fixtures category was divided into large electrical systems and small electrical fixtures. A newly-formed Lighting Controls category was also established to meet the needs of this growing product area.

The INNOVATION Awards Ceremony, held the first day of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Show in San Francisco, October 6, was certainly well attended. In fact, ceremony attendees said we need a bigger room next year — a task we'll be sure to accomplish as the 2008 NECA Show comes to our hometown.

Addressing the crowded room, editor John Dyslin pointed out that with so many entries, unfortunately not everyone could be a winner, but the innovativeness and quality contributions to the industry meant everyone deserved to be recognized. As a result, throughout 2008 we will be showcasing the Finalists in a new "Innovative Products" section.

And the moment you've all been waiting for, proudly presented on the following pages are this year's INNOVATION Award winners. Congratulations!
